HIKE: Three Sisters Waterfall
You are definitely going to want water and snacks for this one.. It doesn't seem like much being only 4.0 miles but the elevation gains are over 1000 feet and that will catch up to you. Make sure you give yourself enough time to complete this hike. Coming from San Diego and Julian right around the corner - this made for a full day.
This is by far the most challenging hike we have ever been on.
Words of encouragement before you start your hike..
To Get There: From Interstate , exit at Highway 79 ( the Descanso exit) and drive north. After 1.3 miles turn left on Riverside Drive. Continue 0.6 miles to the main crossroads (post office, etc.) of the hamlet of Descanso. From there take Oak Grove Drive 1.6 miles to the intersection of Boulder Creek Road on the right. Follow Boulder Creek Road north for 13.0 miles (the first half is paved and the rest is dirt) to a hairpin turn where unpaved Cedar Creek Road joins from the west. Park there, at the 3 Sisters waterfalls Hike Trailhead taking care not to block traffic.
Overlooking the falls after 30 mins into the trail
There are a series of steep decline / inclines w ropes to help you keep traction on the sand
You will have to cross back and forth over the stream that runs from the falls. Plenty of rocks to cross on
The water is COLD which is very refreshing with the sun reaching mid 90s
